Spotlight:
Martin House

The logo on the front door of the Martin House reads, "gifts for any reason and every season." Once inside, shoppers are not disappointed by that claim.

20,000 square feet of gifts and home accessories offer something unique for every shopper – especially if that shopper is a Tiger fan. Mizzou supporters can find everything from clocks, frames and ornaments to wind chimes, stepping-stones and limited edition basketball player nutcrackers.

With a distinctive assortment of MU collectibles and Tiger-themed items, the Martin House has seen its selection expand a great deal in the last two years. This expansion can be credited to owners Brenda and Jim Granneman.

When Brenda’s parents decided to retire almost two years ago, she and Jim assumed ownership of the Martin House. Since then, the store has greatly increased its selection of MU licensed merchandise in response to the MU spirit they witness in Columbia.

"Tiger enthusiasm is awesome in this town," Brenda said, while noting she already has a waiting list for the 2002 MU Santa collectible figures.

Brenda and Jim are also excited to announce the opening of a second store, located in Peachtree Plaza. The grand opening is scheduled for the first week of September.

Welcome to the University of Missouri!

Mizzou on the Move

It’s been “a great time to be a tiger” for the last three years. While that phrase still holds true for Tiger fans everywhere, a new theme can be found emblazoned on promotional materials and merchandise: “Mizzou on the Move.”

According to Frank Cuervo, Director of Marketing for the Department of Athletics, this new theme is a direct reflection of the programs it was designed to promote. “Programs at MU are focusing all their efforts on reaching a championship calibur,” Cuervo said. “Mizzou is certainly a program on the move, so this overall theme speaks well to our position and attitude.”

When developing a new theme, branding the name “Mizzou” as a unique selling point became a primary focus.

“There are other schools that use the block ‘M’ and other universities with a tiger mascot,” Cuervo noted. “The name ‘Mizzou’ is truly unique and what sets us apart from others.”

“Mizzou on the Move” is being incorporated into all promotional material along with print, radio, outdoor and television advertising. The logo will also be featured on the Blackout and Gold Rush t-shirts, as well as on a special edition shirt for the MU vs. Illini football game on August 31 that will be available at the game and the Team Store. The game, located at the Edward Jones Dome in St. Louis, will begin at 2:30 pm and be broadcast on ABC.
