Trendy. Traditional. Unique selection. Basic items. All of these words rarely apply to one place at the same time, yet they perfectly describe the University Bookstore, located in Brady Commons. Whether keeping with the latest trends in women’s fashion or keeping traditional black and gold items in stock, the Bookstore works hard to ensure it offers something for both current students and alumni.

University Bookstore

The Bookstore is owned and operated by the University and 100% of its profits support campus projects. Michelle Froese, the Coordinator for Program and Project Support cites supporting traditions and campus pride as a vital part of the University BookStores mission. From supporting new traditions like the MU class ring to featuring a 25% discount on MU apparel on Black and Gold Fridays (the Fridays before home football games), the Bookstore plays an integral role in boosting school spirit.

This spring, the Bookstore will begin boosting its own spirit with an extensive renovation of the clothing and gift area. Plans include raising the ceiling, increasing the gift section and replacing the hardwood floors with tile. Froese said, "The renovation of our clothing and gift area this summer promises to create an exciting and energetic atmosphere with a boutique feel." Froese also emphasized that the store will remain open throughout renovations and that new merchandise is on its way for summer.

Despite a weakened economy and poor holiday retail sales, sports licensed properties have recently shown an upturn.

As the demand for collegiate licensed products stays strong, sports licensing increased 8% from $10.5 billion to $11.3 billion in retail sales and accounted for 16% of all licensed products sold in 2002.

Recent trends accounting for such increases include the surge in "the retro look" for professional licensed apparel and trendy fashion designs that appeal to consumers outside the traditional fan base.
