The Tiger Letter: Spring 2002
The Mizzou-RAH Retailer Program is proud to announce Tiger Spirit as this issue’s spotlight retailer.
Mizzou fans have shopped at Tiger Spirit since its doors opened in 1988.
In September, Tiger Spirit received an exterior facelift and brought a new look to downtown Columbia.
With better lighting and more Mizzou merchandise, the remodeling allows for a “more pleasant shopping environment and experience,” according to store owners Michelle and Steve Dillard.
Tiger Spirit sits on the corner of Ninth and Cherry, 111 S. Ninth St., in downtown Columbia. Store hours are Mon. 9 a.m.-5 p.m., Tues.-Sat. 9 a.m.-6 p.m., and Sun. 12-4 p.m.
You can reach Tiger Spirit at (800) 842-PAWS or www.tigerspirit.com.

What’s the next trend that could impact campus fashions?
Retail analysts at the National Retail Federation’s annual convention think color and comfort will drive consumers’ clothing purchases during the next year or so.
These analysts believe apparel consumers, especially trendsetters, such as college students, are tired of the somber black wardrobes that have been popular in recent years and are looking for lighter, brighter and comfier clothes.
Some of the apparel trends predicted at the NRF convention include:
- White will be the hot hue for spring and summer apparel, and then ivory and “bond” tones will dominate fall and winter fashions.
- Consumers will want to pair whites and beiges with cheerful colors, especially shades of red. Light blue, orange, lime green, watermelon pink and lemon yellow will also be popular.
- Clothing will be somewhat looser and less form-fitting, although not baggy.
- Some 1980s retro looks will start to re-emerge, such as a modified “preppie” look, ruffled tops for women, floral prints and cowl necks.
Quin Snyder’s club finished the 2001-2002 season with a 24-12 record and advanced to the Elite Eight in the NCAA Tournament. The Tigers’ Elite Eight appearance is the third in school history.
After competing in a talented Big 12 Conference, the Tigers defeated Miami (Fla.), Ohio State and UCLA before falling to Oklahoma on March 23.
